District 70 recognizes staff and accepts donations for athletics and FFA

The Pueblo County School District 70 board accepted several gifts and held staff spotlights during its meeting.
Mark Coopman presented a $1,500 donation from the West Storm Youth Wrestling Club to Pueblo West High School to support wrestling fees, equipment and travel. "They provide us a $1,500 donation, to help us with assistance for wrestling fees, equipment, help us in travel as well," Coopman said. The board moved and voted to accept the gifts with proper acknowledgement.
The board also recognized paraprofessional Brianna Caesar of Prairie Winds Elementary for her dedication and Tina Groullette, school counselor at Liberty Point Elementary, for building an ASCA-aligned counseling program and supporting the district’s mental-health work.
In a separate presentation, Ashley Allen, an advisor for the Pueblo West High School HOSA chapter, described taking about 90 students to the state HOSA competition in Denver and said the students would stay at the Gaylord for three nights to compete in a range of health-care-related events.
Dr. Anthony Martinez requested calendar changes to designate full literacy planning days for elementary and middle schools on 08/27/2026 and 05/06/2027; board members signaled support for converting those previously half days back to full days to accommodate planning and assessment.
The board approved the consent agenda and accepted the gifts by roll-call vote during the meeting.
