The Tyler City Council approved a special use permit to allow construction of a 150‑foot cell tower on a property on Bennett Avenue.
City staff said the site is in an area with industrial uses and some nearby school district property; staff noted the applicant conducted a colocation analysis and concluded existing towers would not accommodate the coverage or capacity need. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval by unanimous vote and staff reported no notices of opposition within 200 feet.
Vince Keybinger of Vincent Girard & Associates told the council the project is intended as a “capacity and a gap site,” noting data use and attachment counts have grown rapidly in recent years and that the closest existing tower is roughly a mile and a half away. He said the new tower would improve in‑building coverage and help relieve capacity constraints.
Council moved to approve the permit, the motion was seconded and the council approved by voice vote.
