Morgan County Schools: Turf, dugouts and drainage — district projects on track

Mister Elliott reported to the Morgan County Schools board that three major construction projects — at Procter, Brewer and Fall High Schools — are progressing and largely on schedule and on budget. "We're looking at a completion date of March 26 or March 25," Elliott said of the Procter baseball/softball work, adding that crews are installing turf on the baseball field now and expect to begin the softball turf installation next week.
The superintendent's facilities presentation included aerial and site photos showing turf installation, concrete "flat work" around concession and dugout areas, and footing completed for new concession buildings. At Brewer High School, Elliott said the district expects the baseball final to be completed the next day and softball turf to finish the following week; associated work includes press-box/bleacher replacement, concession interiors and locker-room finishes.
At Fall High School, site drainage work is underway: Elliott reported crews have installed roughly half of the storm-drain "triple pipe" and started concession construction and interior finishes. He said the field surface work is scheduled to progress through spring with a planned turf or surface completion around May.
District staff repeatedly identified weather as the principal schedule risk for outdoor work, and called out routine interior trades (painting, ceiling and floor finishes) as the remaining tasks before facilities open for spring sports.
Board members and staff also discussed site logistics and safety: one board member urged routing buses behind the press box to separate bus traffic from the car line and to make better use of excavated areas created during grading. Staff described a newly built retaining wall and emphasized that material reuse and access changes were part of the field-site planning.
The presentation closed with board appreciation for the new fields and supporting facilities and confirmation that capital outlay planning will continue to prioritize remaining projects across the district.
