Planning Department staff told the Hot Springs Planning Commission on Feb. 12 that a revised sign code draft is nearly complete and will be circulated to commissioners for review ahead of a public hearing and subsequent vote.
"We have been working tirelessly on the sign code and have come very close to your goal of having a format that was similar to what we have now," Director Selwyn said, adding that the rewrite simplifies the code and implements changes identified in the commission's checklist. Selwyn asked for the commission's consent to the draft so staff could schedule a public hearing and bring the matter back for vote.
Selwyn proposed a review meeting on Feb. 26, two weeks after the meeting, offering two times: noon or 5:00 p.m. After commissioners discussed availability, noon was selected. Selwyn told the commission staff would email the draft "by the middle of next week" and described recent progress and a technical setback: "We made huge progress today and then, we had a problem with my computer which led to us losing part of our work. So painful, yes. But we can bounce back."
The schedule next step is a commissioners' review session on Feb. 26 to discuss outstanding issues in the draft; after that staff intends to schedule a public hearing and return to the commission for action. No public comment, formal objections or vote on the sign code occurred at the Feb. 12 meeting.
