Henrico school board approves routine business, grants religious exemptions and authorizes property sale

The Henrico County School Board conducted several routine and formal votes during its Oct. 9 work session.
Early in the meeting the board approved the meeting agenda (motion moved by mister Irvin, seconded by miss Kinsella) and later voted to enter and then certify a closed session held under the Virginia Code provision for discussion of student scholastic records connected to religious‑exemption requests.
Following the closed session, the board approved two release‑from‑attendance requests — student case numbers 25‑26‑RE‑6 and 25‑26‑RE‑7 — on the superintendent’s recommendation. The motion to grant those religious exemptions was moved by miss Atkins and seconded by miss Kinsella.
During the meeting the board approved the consent agenda (items 7.01 through 7.08) by voice vote with no items pulled for separate consideration. The board also ran a public hearing on the proposed sale of 7850 Carousel Lane (the former Mount Vernon Adult Education Center); no members of the public signed up to speak. The board then adopted the superintendent’s recommendation to approve the sale resolution and to retain a portion of sales proceeds; the motion was moved by mister Irving and seconded by miss Kinsella and passed by voice vote.
No roll‑call tallies with individual member votes were read into the transcript; each motion was approved by voice vote as recorded in the meeting minutes. The board asked staff to complete sale transaction steps and to report back on retained proceeds per the board’s direction.
