Summary
Ashlyn Shrewsbury of Mount Rogers Regional Partnership told supervisors the region created 238 jobs and $128 million in capital investment last fiscal year and earned Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) qualified-community certification for several industrial parks.
Ashlyn Shrewsbury, executive director of the Mount Rogers Regional Partnership, briefed the Wythe County Board of Supervisors on organizational activity and regional economic-development progress.
Shrewsbury said the Partnership supports six localities in the region and reported that last fiscal year it helped support 238 new jobs and $128 million in capital investment, generated 40 leads and visited 75 businesses. She highlighted recent local wins, including a greenhouse project in Carroll County at Wildwood Commerce Park ($105 million investment, about 118 jobs) and an expansion by Dutchess Dairy in Wythe County.
The Partnership described a talent-solutions program that reached K–12 students and helps local industries with workforce pipelines; Shrewsbury said their programs served more than 500 adults and students through events and career fairs. She also said the partnership received a Tobacco Commission marketing grant and earned certification as a Foreign Direct Investment-qualified community for the region and for two parks — Progress Park and Pathway Park.
Supervisors thanked the Partnership for lead generation and for advocating in Richmond. The board received the presentation with no motions to alter county policy.
Next steps: the Partnership invited board members to reach out for more information and offered staff contact details for follow-up.
