Commission outlines Black History Month programs, youth quiz bowl and gospel fest

Moore also described outreach and administrative arrangements for the BJ Ashley scholarship: the education committee historically routed applications through school reviewers to avoid conflicts of interest, and the committee will meet to update the application packet and schedule. Members discussed including local churches in outreach and verified that materials had been found on Marquette High School’s website.
In addition to event planning, committees reported on health and employment outreach: the education subcommittee is awaiting a seminar date from Anthem and Minor Health Coalition to address recent federal Medicaid developments, and the employment subcommittee circulated job listings and paid CDL training opportunities across the region. Members discussed local transportation challenges for applicants.
No public commenters attended the public-comment portion of the meeting. Commissioners asked staff to keep event brochures available at city hall and to publicize dates and locations for community access to screenings, quiz bowl details and scholarship application windows.
