Cedar City Mayor Steve Nelson pledges openness, plans monthly video updates

Steve Nelson, newly elected mayor of Cedar City, introduced himself and thanked residents for placing their trust in him. "Hi, I'm Steve Nelson, newly elected mayor for Cedar City," he said, adding, "First, I want to just express my gratitude for the trust that has been placed in me to serve this community as mayor."

Nelson framed his approach as neighborly and accessible, urging residents to contact him with concerns and ideas. "I hope that, that people will feel very comfortable in just reaching out to me as a as a neighbor, as a friend," he said, calling for collaboration to "make this community better."

He said he ran because he loves the community and wants to make a difference, and acknowledged feeling awkward about the title while emphasizing humility: "I don't view myself as anything but just a normal guy, that that I hope my talents can somehow serve the community."

As a step toward better communication, Nelson announced a regular outreach plan. "We're gonna do these videos every month in addition to the newsletter as a way to to try to have another connection piece with the community," he said, describing the videos as an added channel for information and feedback.

Nelson closed by reiterating his commitment to service and openness: "I just genuinely wanna serve. Hope that my legacy will be one of openness and and welcoming ideas and, input from the community." The message did not include a schedule for the first video or additional operational details; those were "not specified."
