"We had about 75,000 budgeted for these two," a staff member said, and the team's cost estimate for the two monuments was described as about $50,000. The proposal calls for a plaza with a 1,630‑square‑foot concrete slab, benches, a trash receptacle and lighting; staff said much of the work would be completed in‑house using existing concrete contractor agreements.
Council members and staff discussed the size and logistics for moving a large ore rock and whether a crane or heavy equipment would be needed; staff said they would coordinate with property owners and get a closer look at the stone before finalizing the moving plan. A donor who previously provided a pad for the monument offered to assist and asked to be informed of access routes if large equipment must enter his property.
Staff said the Historic Preservation Commission is involved in recreating one of the monuments and that the relocation effort is intended to give the memorials higher visibility and connect them to the Fort Cedar Trail improvements. No formal vote was taken; the presentation was informational and staff indicated they would proceed with planning and coordination.
