Mayor Green addressed a crowd at Cedar City’s Main Street holiday tree lighting, reflecting on traditions and saying this was the last time he would stand “as your mayor” at the Cedar lighting. He urged residents to take a moment of stillness during the season and to focus on being present with family and neighbors.
The remarks framed the tree-lighting as a local tradition that binds the community. Mayor Green recalled quieter Christmases from his youth and quoted a line from Amy Grant’s song to emphasize the value of a "silent night" amid the season’s bustle. "May you find peace in your homes and in your families and in your hearts this Christmas season," he said.
The address was part of a broader program of performances and community activities: international-style music from a group introduced as Nueva Navidad, youth dance performances and an appearance by the reigning Miss Teen Iron County. Emcees highlighted family attractions including character rides, a live nativity and reindeer located near the event.
After the speech, event organizers planned a countdown led by Santa to start the lighting and additional festivities including a large Cache Valley tree scheduled to light later in the evening. The ceremony also included calls to support local holiday fundraising efforts through the Holiday Tree Jubilee.
Mayor Green closed by thanking the community for the privilege of serving and wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas." The program continued with performances and the planned lighting of the street and adjacent decorations.
