City staff presented plans to mark the 20th anniversary of Cottonwood Heights with a year‑long series of events and sought council input on retreat priorities and a rolling capital plan.
Anne Edsel described proposed quarterly activities: a winter 'State of the City' video event, an Arbor Day tree‑planting in spring, an expanded summer celebration tied to existing Butlerville Days, and a fall focus on historic signage and a proposed landmark. Edsel said Rocky Mountain Power offered a $3,500 donation toward a monument and that staff will coordinate with the historic committee and GIS staff to produce an online and printed historic map.
City Manager Jared Gerber reviewed the council retreat schedule (Market Street Grill, 9 a.m. start) and draft agenda including public works project updates, community and economic development briefings, five‑year financial projections and capital improvement priorities, compensation discussions, and a potential follow‑up half‑day session after the legislative session. He highlighted anticipated budget pressures (insurance, UFA, IT licensing) and potential revenue options (grants, telecom franchise, transportation utility fee) that the council may discuss at retreat.
Council confirmed the retreat date and encouraged staff to flesh out numbers and priorities for the retreat workshops.
