Council authorizes Diamond Z Arena water-line work; Brent Hunter well upgrade remains under review

Cedar City staff sought and received council support Oct. 29 to proceed with replacing aging water lines on the west side of the Diamond Z Arena addition.
Staff reported a quote of $6,900 from a local plumber and noted the city is near budget capacity for the project. "We have about $14,000 to work with" in incoming donation and an expected Rocky Mountain Power credit, staff said, but the funds are not yet formally in the budget. Council members agreed it would be prudent to do the replacement before asphalt is installed on the new parking lot and authorized staff to move forward; staff said the expenditure can be incorporated in a December budget revision.
Separately, staff updated the council on the Brent Hunter well and an associated sewer-upgrade estimate. A prior estimate to upgrade sewer infrastructure beneath buildings was presented at about $120,000 and appeared unchanged since last week. Staff said a full 24-hour test pump will be completed next week and that the state is requiring certain fixtures/tests; the council asked staff to return with more information and anticipates the item on a future agenda.
No formal appropriation vote was taken Oct. 29; councilors endorsed proceeding with the Arena water-line work so contractors can complete the parking-lot timeline.
