Residents warn new Main Street median could block left‑turn movements; staff to field‑check and may adjust design
Summary
A public commenter said a newly installed median near Bullock Drug is shortening the left-turn bay into 100 West and causing spillback into all lanes; staff noted the median came from the Maverick project agreement, said UDOT studies did not favor dual-left lanes, and agreed to field-check and consider adjustments if the intersection operation is degraded.

During public comment, Brent Parker described repeated observations that a recently installed median (a raised island referred to as a "turtle") on Main Street shortens the left-turn bay toward 100 West, causing the left-turn lane to back up and eventually block multiple lanes. He urged moving the median back toward 100 West to preserve the turn lane.
Staff responded that the median installation was part of the Maverick/Walmart project improvements and that UDOT’s prior modeling found adding dual-left lanes would not provide the expected benefits and would require costly roadway widening. Staff agreed to inspect the field operation, check whether the median was built to plans, and make adjustments if needed. Councilmembers acknowledged the risk of backup as traffic volumes increase and asked staff to monitor and revisit if the intersection performs poorly after Maverick opens.
No formal action was taken; staff committed to inspect and, if the need is identified, pursue adjustments consistent with UDOT requirements and the project agreement.
