Council told Coal Creek contract needs $210,000 change order for alternate rock source

City staff told the council that Change Order No. 1 for the Coal Creek EWP project is necessary after planned rock failed to meet NRCS standards.
A staff presenter said the contractor located an alternate rock source that must be processed more heavily and hauled from farther away, increasing costs. “We’re estimating, 7,000 cubic yards that will need to come from this alternate source, and the additional, cost, unit cost to be able to do that is what, calculates out to this $210,000 on this contract change order,” the presenter said.
Staff reviewed project finances and told council members they do not anticipate the city will need to fund the additional dollars directly; the extra cost would be absorbed by NRCS funds and donated material that meets the match. Councilmembers had no substantive questions and agreed the item could go on the consent agenda.
The change order will be returned on the consent calendar for formal approval.
