Cedar City swears in two new police officers as department adds staffing

Chief Adams introduced two new police officers at the March 5 council meeting and invited their families to participate in the pinning and photo ceremony.
Officer Garrett Wilson said he was born locally, served in the National Guard and wants to protect the community where his family lives. ‘‘I’m Garrett Wilson...I’m in the National Guard, and I just wanna protect the community that my family lives in,’’ he said. Officer Austin Austile described a career change from mechanic to law enforcement and said he felt a calling to serve: ‘‘...that’s what brought me to actually serve as a officer…It’s an honor to serve.’’ Families joined them onstage for pinning and photographs.
Chief Adams said the hires help address department staffing and thanked the officers and their families.
Next steps: Officers will begin field duties as assigned by the police department.
