Council to consider awarding Fiddler’s Park design contract to Terracon

Leisure Services presented a recommendation on March 5 to award the design and architectural contract for Fiddler’s Park to Terracon.
Ken Nelson of Leisure Services told the council the RFP requested full design services including utilities, grading and drainage, landscape and irrigation, playground amenities, an outdoor classroom and a bridge stub to support future phases. “Our recommendation is for the Terracon, company to be aware of that and we move forward,” Nelson said, noting the consultant expects to begin this month and deliver design documents by late summer.
Council members asked whether the contract covered geotechnical work (staff said geotech would likely be contracted separately), whether the consultant would provide construction-phase oversight (Nelson said the firm has scheduled meetings and would support construction), and whether the design assumed future development on the opposite side of the wash (Nelson said designs will be stubbed out for future phases).
Councilors expressed support for placing the item on consent so staff can advance the project; Nelson said construction-phase costs will be part of future budget conversations.
Next steps: staff will place the recommendation on the consent agenda and return with budget implications when discussing upcoming capital budgeting.
