Cedar City staff recommend small terminal change order and AIP grant for runway repairs

Cedar City officials on March 5 described two near-term airport actions they plan to place on next week’s consent agenda.
Public Works director Bridal Marshall told the council a terminal change order addressing finish items — including carpet, a reconfigured TSA room, door adjustments and lighting — would total $9,609. “So this change order will is for $9,609,” Marshall said, and staff recommended placing the item on consent.
Marshall also outlined a new Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant to fund maintenance on Runway 2/20 and associated taxiways. The project scope includes silcoat, crack sealing and restriping. Marshall said AIP funding typically covers about 95% of such work and the city would be responsible for a roughly 5% match; he also said the city uses annual entitlement funds for these projects.
Council members asked routine clarifying questions about the terminal finishes and the AIP entitlement balance. One councilor noted the airport’s entitlement for recent years and asked whether sums can be carried forward; Marshall replied that unused entitlement applies to the airport for the year plus the next but is not indefinitely banked. Councilors signaled agreement to move both items to the consent agenda for formal approval next week.
