Grand County votes to dissolve Thompson Springs Special Service Fire District

Commissioners reconvened the Thompson Springs public hearing at about 6:01 p.m. and, after a motion to suspend the rules to take an immediate vote, adopted a resolution under Utah Code section 17D‑1‑601. The resolution cites a Bottom Valley Fire Protection District resolution of annexation and a Lieutenant Governor certificate of annexation dated Jan. 17, 2025, and directs staff to file required notices with the Lieutenant Governor and the Grand County Recorder.
County staff said the dissolution follows an interlocal agreement (IOA) approved in December 2024 that lays out asset transfer and fund disposition. The commission approved a short set of closing steps: suspend rules, vote on the dissolution resolution, recess to finalize minutes for the Thompson Springs district’s last meeting and then adjourn the special district’s final meeting.
The commission’s action was unanimous. After the vote, commissioners approved the final minutes for the district’s final meeting and adjourned the Thompson Springs Special Service Fire District.
What happens next: the county will file the resolution and notices with state offices as required by statute and implement the IOA provisions transferring equipment, funds and responsibilities to the annexing district.
