Draper youth council member outlines civic work supporting city events and student learning

Maren Crosby, a member of the Draper City Mayor's Youth Council, said she is in her third year with the group and described how council members assist the mayor in running city events and learn about local government.

"This is my third year serving with the Draper City Mayor's Youth Council," Crosby said. She listed recurring activities the council supports, saying the group helps organize and run community events such as the winter tree lighting ceremony and Easter egg hunts.

Crosby described the council's hands-on roles at events: "We help with setup beforehand and then running the event while it happens, like with face paint for kids," she said. As part of the council's educational activities, Crosby said members travel to the state Capitol during legislative sessions to meet elected officials and "learn about internships and scholarship opportunities."
