The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners convened on Jan. 6 and carried a series of routine items by voice vote. The board approved the consent agenda and the published meeting agenda. Commissioners recognized several county employees for milestone years of service.
Commissioner Christy Hatwell was nominated and elected chair for 2026 following a motion and second; a small number of commissioners voiced concerns about attendance history but the nomination carried. The board approved commissioner membership assignments for 2026 as presented.
Airport manager Robert Veil recommended approval of a lessor’s consent to assignment for the local Avis counter (Arrow Northwest LLC to Avis Budget Car Rental LLC); the board approved the chairwoman’s authorization to sign that agreement. County planner Mark Reed presented R25003 (Balfiska rezone) to rezone ~3.314 acres on Betts Road from agricultural to rural residential; the board opened and closed the public hearing and approved the rezone as recommended by Planning & Zoning.
These items were passed by voice votes with no roll‑call tallies recorded in the public transcript; the meeting then moved to land‑use items that included the cell tower, RV campground and subdivision matters.
