The Claiborne County Port Board voted to allow the port director to work with the port engineer to develop a proposal this year, approved the monthly billing payment, and heard operational updates including delayed signage and a rescheduled congressional tour.
Port director Mister Ross told the board that signage ordered over the last six months had arrived but installation was delayed because of storm damage. He also said Congressman Thompson had requested a tour but had asked to reschedule after receiving a report from an engineer. Mr. Ross said the port would notify the board when the tour is rescheduled.
The board unanimously approved the port director’s request that staff work with engineer Tommy Avant to prepare an unnamed report/proposal; the motion was moved by Mr. Hudson and seconded by Mr. Short. The board then approved payment of the monthly billing; that motion was moved by Mr. Hudson and seconded by Miss Jones.
During the meeting a member asked about the leaseability of the "Blue Barn VA" facility; Mr. Ross said the building needs cleaning but that heating and the surround system were operational. The board had no need for a closed session and adjourned after completing business.
The board’s actions in this meeting include approvals that allow staff to proceed with planning work with the engineering team and to pay routine bills; items requiring further legal review were tabled.
