Hancock County officials on Dec. 15 opened multiple procurement bids across roadbuilding materials and county supplies and voted to take the bids under advisement for later award.
County staff read competitive proposals including per‑ton prices for sand and gravel, hot‑mix asphalt and microsurfacing, liquid asphalt per gallon, and detailed per‑item pricing for culverts and couplings. Vendors submitting bids included Southgate Aggregates LLC, Hunt Refining Company, Vance Brothers LLC and several local and regional office and janitorial suppliers.
Sample bid details presented by staff included: Southgate Aggregates unit pricing for key gravel and road gravel; Hunt Refining Company reported liquid asphalt prices of $2.55 per gallon (picked up by county truck) and $2.75 per gallon for full loads; and multiple vendors provided per‑ton and per‑item pricing for hot mix and specialty asphalt products. Staff also presented bids for highway signs and a range of janitorial and office supply options with widely varying unit prices; because of the volume and specificity of line items, the board voted to take the bids under advisement.
The motion to take the bids under advisement carried unanimously; county staff indicated they will return with award recommendations after reviewing compliance, bonds, insurance, and quantity discounts.
What comes next Procurement staff will evaluate bid documents for responsiveness, calculate estimated annual spend, verify bonding and insurance where required and present award recommendations at a future board meeting.
