Tunica County supervisors approve routine budget amendments, purchases, personnel moves and tax deadline extension

At its Feb. 2 meeting the Tunica County Board approved a series of routine items: a $5,000 transfer to cover K-9 boarding, payment of detainee housing invoices, appointment and promotion in the sheriff’s office, Road & Bridge supplies and equipment purchases, an elevator change order, a governor-ordered tax-deadline extension and travel approvals; the board entered an executive session on a possible land transfer and business relocation.
The Tunica County Board of Supervisors handled a slate of routine but consequential county business at its Feb. 2 meeting, approving budget amendments, vendor payments, personnel actions and equipment purchases.
Budget and invoices: The board approved a budget transfer of $5,000 from enforcement supplies (line 206-13) to miscellaneous expense (206-56) to continue paying boarding expenses for the sheriff’s K-9 'Nino' at Cedar Hill Farms; the transfer was requested because the miscellaneous line had low funds. The board also approved payment of a $140 invoice from DeSoto County and a $450 invoice from Greene County for housing and feeding detainees in those counties on Tunica County matters.
Sheriff’s office personnel and finances: The board recorded the sheriff’s appointment of Chadwick McKnight to lieutenant of investigations (effective Feb. 2) at $32.39 per hour, to be paid from the investigations fund. The board also approved transferring Clifton Hamilton to lieutenant of patrol effective Feb. 2 at $27.50 per hour. The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office reported monthly revenue of $18,356.58 and total reimbursements to the county of $21,126.58 for the reporting period; grant reimbursements were reported as $0.
Road & Bridge and equipment: Road & Bridge requested and received approval for monthly supplies totaling $101,300. The board authorized issuing a manual check for $68,000 to purchase a used motor grader (serial RMR9M00268), a purchase the board had previously approved in September 2025.
Facilities and contracts: The board approved change order no. 1 for Tunica elevator modifications to install a MaxLink cellular dialer at a cost of $3,750 and amended the annual elevator service contract for $55.
Administrative items: The board approved observing Presidents' Day on Feb. 16, 2026, and adopted the governor’s proclamation extending the ad valorem tax submission deadline without penalty to March 3, 2026, following recent windstorm conditions.
Travel and conferences: The board listed authorization for travel to several conferences and conventions (including NOBCo and the MAS annual convention) and a delegation trip to Washington, D.C.; travel motions were approved.
Executive session: Attorney Perry stated the board would enter executive session to discuss a private issue involving a possible transfer of land and the relocation of a business into Tunica County. The board voted to enter executive session.
What the board did not do: The board did not transfer property title during the Feb. 2 meeting; several items (notably the Moon Landing stewardship proposal) were referred to staff and counsel for follow-up rather than final contracts or appropriations.
The meeting concluded after the board took these actions and moved into the announced executive session.
