Community speakers used the district's March 6 superintendent-search meeting to press elected members on governance norms and recent scheduling choices.
Multiple parents and former staff criticized a recent special curriculum meeting that they said was called on short notice and excluded two board members. Leslie Elliott, a longtime resident, told the board the emergency meeting "disregarded the recommended school board role" and said two minority members and key staff were unavailable. Several commenters asked the board to follow consultant guidance on governance training and to allow staff time to prepare concise presentations instead of scheduling last-minute meetings.
Others objected to physical changes in the meeting room. One speaker said the "newly raised seating that looks like you're sitting on thrones" created an inappropriate hierarchy and asked the board to treat staff and the public with equal respect.
Board members and consultants acknowledged the community concerns and discussed how the search firm would broaden outreach (translated surveys, multiple meeting times and partner channels) to allow more stakeholders to participate. The board president reiterated that public-comment rules would be enforced at meetings to preserve decorum and allowed a short extra time-per-speaker extension to wrap up remarks.
The meeting then moved to consultant presentations on the search timeline and closed with a motion to continue confidential candidate work in closed session.
