Board approves acting superintendent Jeff Dixon’s contract amid procedural questions

Staff said President Perry and legal counsel communicated with the superintendent’s counsel and that the terms were negotiated to protect the district and the employee; legal counsel confirmed the board, acting through its president and counsel, had authority to negotiate terms for later full board approval.
Despite procedural concerns, multiple board members said the contract language is acceptable and voted in favor of approval. The board did not amend the contract on the dais. Members asked staff to document negotiation steps and to ensure future inter‑board communications follow board policy.
The approval allows Mr. Dixon to continue performing acting superintendent duties under the approved terms while the board proceeds with a confidential superintendent search process and candidate interviews.
