Several volunteers framed the event as a chance for neighbors, businesses and families to work together. A parent volunteer said serving alongside their children is an important way to model civic responsibility. Another volunteer described the satisfaction of returning to a site and seeing plants and improvements the group installed.
Smith noted Community Service Day is a single-day event and encouraged people to volunteer year-round, directing listeners to livermorec.gov/csd for information. The day's work ranged from plantings and shrub care to fence painting and hardscape work intended to improve neighborhood public spaces.
