Board approves $438,000 advance to contractor for Walnut Lake bridge materials

The Tunica County Board of Supervisors approved Jan. 20 an advanced payment request of $438,000 to Talbot Brothers, the general contractor on the Walnut Lake Bridge project, to cover supplier invoices for beams and pipe piles already purchased and stockpiled.
A contractor representative said the materials had been purchased and would be delivered to the site on the day of installation, and staff confirmed the bonding company had approved the advance. “They've already had to purchase all this,” the contractor representative said in explaining the request.
Supervisors asked about on-site verification; staff said the pipe piles are on-site and the beams are stored at the casting yard and will be delivered when set. The board moved, seconded and approved the payment by voice vote. State aid recommended the standard procedure, according to staff.
