Tunica County OKs $1.09 million award for White Oak sanitary-sewer improvements

Trey Hopper, presenting with Neil Schafer, told the board the county received a successful Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) bid (CDBG #1223O72PFO1) and recommended awarding the contract to the Tunica County Utilities District. “We are recommending the award of that bid,” Hopper said, adding that additional grant funds above the bid amount will be useful on the project rather than returned.
Board members asked staff to clarify the scope. Hopper described the work as replacement and repair of a sanitary sewer line serving White Oak homeowners and said the project will include post-installation monitoring; he told the board monitoring would include checks for methane and other issues for approximately three years after construction.
Supervisor Lee moved to accept the bid; the motion received a second and passed by voice vote. The board did not specify the individual mover or recorded roll-call tally in the meeting transcript, but the motion was carried.
The county presentation noted there are potential change orders that would be beneficial to the utility district and that state CDBG funds will cover them rather than being returned.
