Hancock County approves Retail Strategies agreement and Haskell airfield striping contract for port and harbor

The Hancock County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 2 approved a three-year retail-recruitment services agreement and an airfield striping contract for the county port and harbor.
Blaine Lafontaine, speaking for the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission’s economic development team, asked the board to approve a Retail Strategies agreement for retail recruitment services for a three-year term totaling $142,500. Lafontaine said the Port and Harbor Commission’s portion is $112,500, with Mississippi Power’s portion recorded as $30,000; the funding is to be split across fiscal years rather than treated as a single annual amount. The board approved the agreement by a 5–0 vote.
Lafontaine also presented a recommended contract with Haskell Inc. for an airfield striping project “for an amount not to exceed $49,699 as recommended by the engineer.” Two quotes were received and staff said the project is budgeted; the board approved the contract 5–0.
Lafontaine gave examples of prior results from working with Retail Strategies, naming franchise prospects and active discussions aimed at connecting local commercial space on Highway 90 and Exit 16 with national retailers.
Both motions carried unanimously; the board recorded the approvals as routine procurement actions and will proceed with contract execution.
