Castle Dale authorizes limited ambulance coverage by local EMT to address response gaps

Castle Dale councilors voted on Feb. 12 to allow Becca, an EMT identified in the meeting, to operate the Orangeville-area ambulance one day per week while she is on duty for the city.
Council members cited two recent incidents where local responders waited for outside ambulances and described long delays that occurred while residents were injured and waiting for transport. The mayor and several councilors said having local EMTs available for a scheduled coverage day would reduce response times and keep resources within the community. A council motion to permit Becca to run the ambulance was moved, seconded and approved by an affirmative roll-call vote from the five attending council members.
Council noted the decision is a temporary operational measure; staff and the EMS coordinator were directed to coordinate schedules with the Orangeville ambulance service and report back if coverage issues persist.
