Livermore Council Approves Consent Items; Resident Urges Inclusive Pride Flag

The Livermore City Council unanimously approved the consent calendar during its May 12 meeting. The consent calendar contained several routine items; no items were pulled for separate action.
During the public-comment period on the consent calendar, resident Alan Marling urged the council to fly a pride flag acknowledging diversity and encouraged the city to consider a Progress or Inclusive Progress design rather than the Philadelphia version staff recommended. "For my money, I prefer the progress pride flag or the intersects inclusive progress pride flag," Marling said, noting those versions include trans and intersex representation as well as the brown and black stripes to honor people of color in the queer community.
Vice Mayor Branning followed public comment by asking staff to consider acquiring a more modern flag for future Pride Months if not for the current year.
The council then moved, seconded and approved the consent calendar unanimously.
Next steps: staff will carry out the consent items and follow up on Vice Mayor Branning's request about flag options for future years.
