The Livermore City Council on June 9 approved the city’s two‑year operating budget and a five‑year capital improvement plan and unanimously confirmed several advisory‑board appointments recommended by a council subcommittee.
City Manager Mariana Birch said the budget projects a mid‑six‑figure surplus by 2027‑28 and reported the city has received a Distinguished Budget Award for about 30 years. "I believe it has been about 30 years," Birch said when asked about the award history. Council Member Dunbar moved to approve the budget and the CIP; the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting the council accepted subcommittee recommendations for multiple advisory posts. The council approved appointments including Tahida Babar (Commission for the Arts, unexpired term to 11/01/2029), Shanavaz Nazarabadi (Historic Preservation Commission, term to 05/01/2029), Jason Hibono (Library Board, unexpired term to 06/01/2026), Lainie Pascale (Library Board reappointment to 06/01/2028), Deborah Halford (Library Board to 06/01/2028), and Terry Butchen (Livermore Housing Authority, unexpired term to 01/01/2028). The city clerk administered oaths to the appointees following the vote.
What happens next: appointees will serve for the terms specified and staff will proceed with the budget implementation and CIP work programs described in the adopted documents.
