Council updates: Hall Festival, downtown-development timing and call to add budgeting item

Separately, Council member Evan Chase reported that Newport Downtown Development met with BHB earlier in the week and that the group expects a preliminary report by mid-to-late October. Chase asked the mayor and staff to schedule a presentation of that report to the council when it is available.
Chase also asked the council to put on a near-term agenda a specific item to examine budgeting questions and options to reverse the city's fiscal slide rather than deferring those conversations to the regular fall budget process. Chase said addressing the issue will require substantial work and suggested starting earlier on a plan for expense cuts and revenue options.
The meeting continued with other council member reports before adjourning.
