The Newport City Council approved the Department of Public Works' recommendation to accept the lower salt bid for the city's salt bin. The DPW director reported that Compass Minerals bid approximately $98.03 per ton and Kargil Salt bid about $96.25 per ton; he noted the city uses roughly 1,500 tons annually and recommended taking the lower price to save operating costs.
A motion to accept the DPW recommendation was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
The council did not amend the contract terms at the meeting and directed staff to proceed with the awarded vendor.
