The Newport City Council approved several infrastructure items during the meeting, including a VTrans Class 2 paving reimbursement, a preliminary water/wastewater allocation for a residential parcel, and a small easement payment tied to the city's water tower.
Tom (public works/staff) described a $200,000 VTrans class 2 paving grant for Glen Road that paid for reclassification and paving work; the council voted to approve the TA-65 reimbursement request. Staff noted a separate unpaved 1,400-foot segment beyond the project was not included in the grant and that an out-of-scope paving estimate ranged from about $66,000 to $88,000.
The council also approved a preliminary wastewater and water allocation application for a parcel on Kenny Lane; staff confirmed the municipality had sufficient allocation for the residential request and the motion carried.
On the water tower project, staff said the council had agreed to a $5,000 payment for a small parcel and easements to accommodate a booster pump station near the reservoir. The council approved sending the $5,000 to the city's law firm to hold in escrow until closing.
Next steps: staff will forward grant paperwork for reimbursement, continue design/closing steps on the water tower booster site and track any out-of-scope paving needs as separate budget items.
