Brighton board approves title changes, teacher memorandum and consent items at Dec. 17 meeting

The Brighton Central School District Board of Education approved a set of administrative and personnel items and routine consent matters during its Dec. 17 meeting at Brighton High School.

Dr. McGowan asked the board to approve title changes for two district staff members to better reflect their responsibilities. "This is a result of their work, of their value to the organization," Dr. McGowan said, explaining that Dionys Bagdola will move from director of student services to assistant superintendent for student support services and Caitlin Feeney will move from assistant director of student services to director of special education and mental health services. The board moved to approve the title-modification resolution; the motion was made and seconded by board members and carried.

The board also approved memorandums of agreement with the Brighton Teachers Association to support student participation in the Seal of Biliteracy program and approved an employment agreement to provide benefits for a regularly working accompanist. In each case, motions to approve were moved and seconded by board members and carried without extended discussion.

In addition, the board reviewed three policies on first reading — policy 7513 (medication and personal care items), policy 7521 (students with life-threatening health conditions) and policy 5661 (wellness) — and presented them as first reads; a motion to accept the first reads for board consideration was made and seconded.

Routine consent-agenda items — including fundraising events (Friends of the Arts bingo night, Class of 2025 fundraiser, and a wrestling booster pancake breakfast) and field-trip approvals — were approved as part of the consent agenda.

The meeting concluded with board thanks to staff handling audio, video and logistics, and adjournment.
