Levan swears in Tyler Shepherd as mayor; council adopts 2026 schedule and appoints planning commissioner

Tyler Shepherd was sworn in as mayor of Levan during the town council’s Jan. 8 meeting, taking the oath to support and defend the U.S. and Utah constitutions and to “discharge the duties of my office with fidelity.” The oath was administered by Christine, the town clerk, after a judge was unavailable to attend.
After the swearing in, council members Jerry Hodges Spencer and Ray Evans also took their oaths as council members. Council members exchanged congratulations and brief remarks following the ceremonies.
The council then reviewed and approved its meeting schedule for 2026, keeping planning commission meetings on the first Wednesday of each month and town council meetings on the second Thursday. A motion to accept the 2026 meeting calendar was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Councilors also addressed a planning commission vacancy. A resident identified only as Carol told the council she was interested in serving. A motion to appoint Carol to the planning commission was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The council approved the minutes of the Dec. 11, 2025 meeting and approved claims and payroll items covering the date ranges listed by the clerk.
The meeting opened with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, and the clerk reminded members of routine requirements such as ethics pledge signatures and upcoming training for newly elected officials.
