Oregon City Board approves farmland lease, program stipends and routine business in Dec. 17 meeting

The Oregon City Board of Education on Dec. 17 approved a package of routine motions and several operational decisions, including a five-year farmland lease, stipend payments tied to state legislation and a security pay increase for athletic events.
In the meeting27s votes, the board approved a five-year rental agreement for 94.36 acres of district-owned farmland at four locations and recommended awarding the lease to Paul Soltes at the highest responsible annual bid of $23,525.76. Board members discussed how rental revenue is allocated; treasurer Jeff said a portion (he noted a scholarship share) goes to the Clay High School scholarship fund while the remainder goes to district rental income. The board approved the lease by roll call.
The board also voted to accept multiple community donations, including $250 from Dan and Satin Briones for past-due lunch accounts, $7,500 from Noel Graham III to the WIN Center, two buddy benches donated by the Exchange Club of Greater Maumee (value $602.60), a $1,000 gift card to the Jerusalem Parents Club Helping Hand Fund, and other gifts earmarked for specific schools.
Administrators moved and the board approved the Clay High School graduates list pending state and local requirements and approved multiple handbooks including the Clay High School course-offerings handbook (corrected to the 2025-26 year) and the Work Based Learning Student Handbook for Cougar Tech students.
On policy-driven funding, the board authorized the treasurer to pay Science of Reading stipends as required by House Bill 33 and the state operating budget for the grant period. The board also approved a membership payment for the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) for 2025 ($10,338), an electronic School Management News subscription ($150), and a $250 legal assistance fund payment.
Operational approvals included raising police/security pay for athletic events to $55 per hour to align with neighboring districts and the board27s approval of an overnight Clay High School band trip to Nashville March 302FApril 2, 2026 (costs to be covered by families).
All motions described above were moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting.
