The Pittsburg City Commission voted to grant a 10‑year property tax abatement to Pitt Plastics (a facility of Inteplast) following a public hearing and staff presentation.
Pitt Plastics representatives said the recent expansion at 1400 East Atkinson cost roughly $18 million, added about 200,000 square feet of warehouse space and preserves the company’s local footprint. Aaron Yar, general manager, said the facility employs "more than 350 people from Pittsburg and surrounding communities" and described the addition as the plant’s largest investment since the 1990s.
City staff explained the abatement would apply only to the value of the new addition; the company would continue paying taxes on the existing property. Staff also provided a state‑required cost‑benefit analysis intended to show the city’s net benefit from the investment. "The applicant is required to do a cost benefit analysis . . . it shows that the city clearly comes out," a staff member said.
After a short public comment period in which residents voiced general support and asked for documented net‑benefit figures, the commission approved the abatement by motion and voice vote.
What’s next: The abatement will be formalized in documents authorizing mayoral signature and recorded in city files. Commissioners asked staff to continue providing written cost‑benefit material to the public in future abatement considerations.
