Palm Desert unveils two-concept plan for new municipal library at Parkview site with $20M and $30M budget options

City staff and the selected architect presented two conceptual designs for a new Palm Desert municipal library and said the library advisory committee unanimously recommended building a new facility on the Parkview (former Sheriff Station) site.
Ryan Lamb, capital projects, reviewed the project history: the council formed a library task force in June 2023 and voted in September 2023 to withdraw from the Riverside County library system and self-operate beginning July 1, 2024. Lamb said the city and county negotiated a withdrawal agreement that included $4,000,000 from the county to support development.
