Everman opens public hearing on ordinance to make Planning and Zoning Commission serve as Board of Adjustments

The Everman City Council opened a public hearing Tuesday to consider a proposed ordinance amending the city's comprehensive zoning ordinance to designate the Planning and Zoning Commission as the city's Board of Adjustments.
City staff told the council that Planning and Zoning held a public hearing the previous night and that four of five commission members were present; all four voted to recommend adoption of the ordinance. Staff said there were no public comments at the Planning and Zoning hearing. Because the city currently has a pending variance request, staff told the council that if the council adopts the ordinance the variance could be handled as soon as the following week.
The mayor opened the hearing for sworn testimony and then, finding no speakers, closed the public hearing at 6:07 p.m. The transcript records no council vote on the ordinance during the meeting. City staff framed the item as an administrative change in which the Planning and Zoning Commission would hear variance requests if the ordinance is adopted.
