The California City Council voted Jan. 27 to award a contract to Aventus for replacement of a water main segment on Vivian Place, a project staff said is intended to raise water pressure in a low-pressure, high-elevation neighborhood and improve fire protection.
Public Works staff described the work as a continuation of a multi-year program to replace aging steel pipe and tie that area into a higher-pressure transmission line. The contract award is $214,849.72 with a $32,002.27 contingency, for a total authorized amount of $268,561.72; staff said the funds will be paid from the water fund balance.
Council discussed the limited number of residences immediately affected and the long-term aim of expanding pressure improvements in the surrounding area. Staff said any change orders above the approved contingency would be brought back to council for approval.
The contract passed on a roll-call vote (Council members Clark, Smith, Mayor Pro Tem Creighton, Mayor Hawkins voted yes). Work will proceed under standard public-contract terms and reporting requirements.
