Summary
Finance director Veronica Chavez said Measure G implementation begins April 1 after required state filings; city collections will cover the rest of the fiscal year with a full year of revenue starting July 1, and staff will report quarterly to ensure alignment with the council‑approved five‑year spending plan.
Veronica Chavez, the city’s director of finance, told the council the city completed required paperwork with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and is "in the clear to begin administering Measure G on April 1." Chavez said Measure G passed Nov. 5 with about 65% approval and that collections beginning April 1 will cover the last quarter of the fiscal year, with a full year of revenue starting July 1.
Chavez reminded council that when Measure G was placed on the ballot the council also approved a five‑year spending plan prioritizing public safety, flood control, the NorthSphere Regional Park, the library and replenishing reserves. She said staff is developing a quarterly report for the finance committee and city council to track compliance with that plan.
Council members asked timing questions about when the full 1% will be received; Chavez confirmed 1% collections start April 1 and the full year begins July 1. The finance team will continue outreach to the public and to the state regarding implementation.
What’s next: staff will deliver quarterly reports showing Measure G collections and expenditures aligned with the approved five‑year spending plan.
