Goodland updates: stoplight rewired, water main testing underway, new sweeper delivered

City staff updated the Goodland City Commission on several public-works and municipal operations items, including traffic-signal repairs, water-main replacement progress, equipment replacement and property clearances.
Dustin summarized repairs to the Main Street stoplight: "Rewiring from the box to the base, and, then we had to change out all of the red lights," he said, noting the signal briefly went into flash mode but has been reset and appears to be holding. The city manager said he had not received complaints and that traffic flow on Main Street is improved with the restored signal.
Public works supervisor Neil described progress on the 16th Street water-main project between Cherry and Walnut: crews have installed pipe and a cross at 16th and Walnut, and the line must be pressure-tested, flushed, and cleared by bacteriological sampling before the city can place it into service. "We still have to fill that line, pressure test that line, flush that line, send in bacteriological samples," Neil said, summarizing the next steps.
Staff also reported the new street sweeper arrived, the vendor trained city operators, and the old Elgin sweeper will be offered at auction. The crew noted the city spent tens of thousands of dollars on the old sweeper’s rebuilds and expects better reliability from the new machine.
Finally, staff said 321 Broadway is cleared and demolition of 508 West 15th will proceed shortly under contract; other code-enforcement and property cleanup efforts are ongoing.
