Local barber seeks permission to open shop in airport office building

Cynthia, a barber who said she has worked in town since 1999, asked the commission for permission to open a small barbershop in the airport office building. She told the commission she could move equipment from her prior shop and hoped to be operating by Jan. 1 if the commission approved.
Commissioners and staff raised logistical questions about bringing water and sewer to the space. Kent (staff) said those connections would be at the tenant's expense; Cynthia said she was willing to pay for them. A commissioner recommended staff and the applicant draft a rental agreement to return to the commission for final approval if no immediate objections exist.
"I've been a barber since 1999, and I've lived in this town all my life," Cynthia said, adding she hopes to reopen by January 1. Staff said they would work with Cynthia to prepare an agreement and estimate connection costs before a future meeting.
