The trailer-park manager told the commission she has issued eviction notices and asked the city to allow eviction and cleanup so the unit can be rehabilitated. She told commissioners she was "in the process of getting the tenant evicted out" and wants access to clean the unit before anyone returns.
Commission discussion clarified that abatement authority (a city code remedy) and landlord–tenant eviction are separate: the city can control access to abate hazardous conditions but eviction remains a legal process for the owner to pursue. Staff indicated abatement would be limited to interior cleaning (excrement removal and plumbing repairs) and would not immediately require demolition.
On a related property, the commission considered Resolution 2025-34 for 520 West 16th. Omar, who said he recently bought the house and had replaced the roof and windows, asked for time to address foundation repairs. "We replaced the roof... all our savings went into this house," Omar said, asking for a chance to make the property livable rather than having it torn down. Several commissioners expressed concern about winter concrete work and the long history of issues with the parcel; one commissioner said they were "not interested in declaring this property unfit at this point" and preferred to postpone until spring.
The commission voted to table the 520 West 16th abatement to allow the owner to work with staff and return with a schedule. Commissioners said they expect an update in the spring and may remove the item from future agendas after staff confirms a timeline.
