Herriman approves design contract for planned 50-plus acre athletic complex

Herriman City council approved a design contract to advance plans for an athletic complex on a roughly 50-acre land-swap parcel, officials said. The design work will move from concept planning to full design so the city can go to bid for construction.
City engineer Bryce Terry said the site vision includes about 15 athletic fields along with restrooms and support buildings. The city received four proposals for the design contract; Terry said the price range was “from 400,000, the lowest, to $2,300,000.” He told listeners the recommended firm scored highly on qualifications and recent experience and was also the lowest-cost proposer.
Terry cited a recent visit to a similar completed project, Epic Sports Park in Provo, as part of the vetting process. With the contract execution forthcoming, staff said they will begin laying out fields and refining the scope to determine final construction bidding requirements and budgets.
Next steps are executing the design contract, finishing design documents, and taking the project to the bid phase; staff said the city tentatively budgeted about $1,000,000 for design work during council consideration.
