CRA supports straw poll to fund City Creek daylighting construction documents

Salt Lake City planners presented a concept and funding request for daylighting a portion of City Creek along the Folsom Trail between roughly 800 West and 1000 West. Planner Lauren Parisi told the CRA board Jan. 13 that the project’s design concept (plaza, natural, active segments) is complete, the city secured $600,000 from the state’s Outdoor Recreation Initiative (ORI) for construction drawings, and that total construction-drawing costs are estimated at about $1,000,000.
Parisi said the CRA has set aside about $185,000 toward the drawings and requested a straw poll for $216,000 from the North Temple infrastructure improvements fund to close the immediate gap. She reported that the full construction cost is estimated at $12.1 million and said staff is coordinating with Public Lands and partner nonprofit 7 Canyons Trust to pursue additional grants and private contributions. The board discussed fund availability and asked for written updates tying this effort to public-lands landscaping and timelines.
After discussion the board expressed unanimous support for the straw poll with the requested caveat that Public Lands and CRA provide a joint briefing on project status and coordination.
