The Herriman Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a conditional-use permit amendment allowing a temporary canvas building at the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District construction site to accommodate ongoing building work. The commission’s approval includes staff-recommended conditions that the temporary structure be removed upon completion or abandonment of the construction work and that the site be returned to a vegetated condition.
Staff told the commission the contractor had placed a large temporary canvas building on the Jordan Valley property, and that a concrete slab had been poured beneath the tent. “In terms of compliance with current ordinance, as per 10/16, any temporary structure needs to be removed upon the completion or abandonment of the construction of work,” a staff member said, and recommended approval with three conditions, including remediation back to a vegetated state.
The applicant did not offer additional remarks when invited by the chair. After brief discussion, a commissioner moved to approve item 4.1 with staff’s three recommendations; another commissioner seconded. The chair called the roll and recorded affirmative votes from Brody, Jackson, Heather, Adam, Daryl and Forrest. The chair announced the motion (moved by Adam and seconded by Daryl as stated on the record) carried unanimously.
The action allows the temporary structure to remain under the specified conditions and leaves enforcement and timing details to staff and any follow-up permits required by engineering or building inspections. No civil penalties, enforcement dates, or sunset dates for the temporary structure were specified on the record.
