Park City students launch Youth Advisory Council to advise city officials

Three students — Ellen, Shiva Minter and Mara Barth — opened the meeting by announcing the formation of the Park City Youth Advisory Council, a group of middle- and high-school students that will meet monthly to learn about city government and provide youth perspectives to city officials.
The students said they formed the council in August with support from city communications staff Linda Yeager and Mayor Nan Worrall. They described program activities including shadowing city officials, focusing monthly on different sectors of city government, and a January trip to the Utah League of Cities and Towns where they role-played government activities and engaged with elected officials.
Students said the council covers grades 7–12 and emphasized the council’s role in exposing young people to career paths in public service and giving them opportunities to engage with municipal decision-making. The students invited council members and residents to acknowledge youth participants and thanked officials for supporting the new body.
